  here's another one of my pet questions.... if you're the almighty, ruler of the universe, omnipotent, all seeing, all knowing, blah blah, from beginning to inning to alfa to omega to whatever.

  why when something you created challenges your authority do you accept the challenge?

  (and not turn the other cheek or kill it).

  Is there any particular book you would recommend on how the bible cannon was compiled especially the New testament?

  take a close look at paragraph 4. am i the only one who can see the old pattern of the 1980's re-emerging?

  i had thought that the watchtower had begun to take a more reasonable approach to the secular education of it's members children yet here they are again in 2004 willing to jeopardise the education these young people receive for the sake of indoctrination and control.. .

  I can remember staying up till midnight and beyond on Thursday nights trying to finish homework.

  Thankfully my parents let me stay off the meetings on nights before exams, obviously going against society rules.

  i went to school with a couple of jehovahs witnesses and they were ok people.some of you lot on here just need to get over it - i don't understand that if you were so bored with it -why did you get into it in the first place ?

  give it up - you made a mistake - get over it - or get therapy or something.. i used to go into school assemblies etc.

  and church occasionally and i was bored stiff so i presume its not something peculiar to jehovahs witnesses halls.i wouldn't go back now but whats the point in whinging about it like you lot?

  Tottenham in the next round. We still haven't beaten Leicester in this round yet.

  My neighbour is a huge Bolton Wanderers fan and he persuaded me to attend a charity dinner this week at the reebok stadium. He then told me at the weekend that the guest speaker was Alex Ferguson!!

  Hope he brings a translator.

  By the way, it would be interesting to find out if your mates at school were still JWs.

  I've just re-read my post from last night as after drinking about 6 glasses of wine I couldn't quite remember what I'd written. Anyway, I think ridicule was too strong a word. But I do find many passages in the OT humorous and/or awful. As a historical book it is extremely important and the more I study how the bible came to be in its present form the more amazed I am with it.

  I think I've read in one of your posts that you feel the authors of the bible have tried to put into words some of their experiences of the divine rather than it being a literal explanantion of the past. I can accept that point of view and I believe it can apply to other books such as the Tao te ching.

  I'll start on lager and see what happens.

  All I can say is that if just one person leaves the cult called the Jehovahs Witnesses because of posts on this board then it really does have a point.

  It can take someone many years to recover from a cult, and boards like this one can help.

  Making 607 crumble

  during my eight month long study with "elder bob" (moms husband) we have batted around many subjects to say the least.

  but the one that really stands out is the dreaded date of 607 bc.

  im sorry i just will not let up with this date, and him having to prove it can stand.

  How many times do you have to have your arse kicked in these kind of threads before you give it up?

  There is abundant secular and biblical evidence in support of 607 as a calcuable and credible date for the Fall of Jerusalem.

  Once again, for the record, name ONE piece of secular evidence to support 607. And the 586/587 argument you keep bringing up has been explained to you time and time again. A real scholar would never bring this up as an argument.
